The Latest Trends In Modern Kitchen Design

In the world of Interior Design, kitchens are often the star of the show, and there are new trends popping up left and right that cater to both aesthetics and functionality. As more and more people lean into the art of home cooking and the kitchen takes center stage as a social area rather than just a place to prepare a meal, interior designers are adapting new concepts to match these demands. Here are a few trends we are loving!

Double-duty: One of the most interesting kitchen design trends we’ve seen lately is the rise of double-duty kitchens. There are a lot of designs being created with double sinks, double appliances, double islands. Since the pandemic, people are cooking at home more frequently and the need for simple functionality is stronger than ever. Now the kitchen is more than just a place to make our meals; it’s an office, an entertainment space, a therapy room, a homework center… Having enough space and material to do whatever you need is important, and adding doubles of the most used spaces/items makes it easy to handle whatever your family needs!

Chef-style Kitchens: Another emerging trend in modern kitchen design that has the industry excited is chef kitchens. What was once considered a luxury reserved only for the wealthiest of homeowners is now on the rise in accessible appliance brands like LG and Frigidaire. This shift in kitchen design is not just about creating a place to prepare meals; it's about crafting an environment that mirrors the professional kitchens favored by world-renowned chefs. You’ll find bespoke gas stoves, oversized islands, large countertop workspaces, and thoughtfully laid out pantry spaces. Some kitchen designs may even include steamers, deep fryers, or flattop griddles  built right into the counters.

Modern cabinetry: Modern cabinet styles are also becoming more popular lately. For years, shaker style doors with trim on the sides have been the standard for kitchen and bath design, but no more. We are seeing a shift to more modern styles, with flat or glass panels on doors and long cabinet pulls rather than knobs to open. Another option that is becoming increasingly popular is push-to-open cabinets, which allows kitchen designers to maintain sleek lines and a minimalist look in the space without compromising storage or style. We love a smooth line over here!

Non-traditional backsplash: My personal favorite kitchen design trend is non-traditional backsplash installations.  There are a lot of ways to modify a typical backsplash to make it more  unique and creative, and I am loving seeing all the unique introductions in the market! Keep it simple by simply extending a slab of tile or marble all the way up the wall, or get extra fancy and build hidden storage spaces into the backsplash to maximize efficiency. Or if open shelving is more your style, incorporate that along a backsplash wall as well. Put the shelving in a straight line for a more standard look, or stagger the shelves to add some personal creativity and dimension!

Smart Kitchen: Have you ever been standing at your refrigerator and thinking, “Gee, I would love it if I could access the internet right here?” If you said “yes,” then you’re in luck, because smart kitchen appliances are here, and here to stay. There are a plethora of options you can add to your kitchen space to make your life easier, like a smart fridge that keeps track of your groceries for you, this coffee maker that you can run from your phone, or this smart oven that can handle all the work of cooking in a fraction of the time! Technology will continue to evolve and be an even bigger part of our lives, and there’s no time like the present to start making it work for you!

Whether you choose to have a smart kitchen design that can be controlled from anywhere or something a little less connected, these latest trends ensure you can still have a beautiful, highly functional kitchen to serve as the central hub of your home. There are a ton of ways to incorporate any one of these options, and we’d love to help you get started!
